If you are travelling by yourself, you can either pay the single supplement for your own room, or you can elect for a twin-share room. We will then match you up with another traveller of the same sex to room with for the tour.
We do not have a strict policy on tour numbers. The average size of a group would be 20-25 participants. However, we can travel with as few as 10. If the tour is particularly popular, we may split the group into two. For the performing arts tours, we often have to limit the number in a group in order to organise the practical workshops.
The earlier the better! To book your place on the tour, we only require a $500 deposit with the balance due 70 days prior to departure. Places on some tours are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. As a general rule, the earlier you book, the more likely you will be able to secure the cheapest airfares.
None of the included activities are compulsory, however, there is no refund for any unused portions of the tour.
As professional development is a requirement of the job of a teacher, all PD activities should be tax deductible for full or part time teachers. However, please speak to your tax agent for professional advice.
Absolutely! Anyone is welcome to join one of our PD tours, even if they are not teachers. However, we do expect any non-teachers to have a strong interest in the subject area.
You will need to provide your NESA number on your booking form. After the completion of the study tour, we will log your hours through the NESA portal. If the system does not allow the logging of your hours, we will contact you directly to follow up with NESA.
Academy Travel offers a range of tours and there are two types of tour directly relevant to teachers. The professional development tours are specifically designed for teachers with the included activities chosen for their relevance to the syllabuses it is addressing. The included PD is usually 30-50 hours and the dates always link in with the school holidays. Academy Travel study tours are programs that are not designed exclusively for teachers but do allow for around 15-20 hours of accredited PD. These tours will mostly fall within school holiday periods.
We aim to have a good balance of academic content and free time. On most days, you will have some free time and we usually include at least one half or full free day in each tour.
